The number of wireless sensor nodes being deployed are exponentially increasing. The nodes are becoming the eyes and ears for many industries that must monitor distributed devices and environments. SCARF Technologies' energy harvesting modules are designed to provide enough power to keep most nodes active for over ten years. This means 10+ years of not replacing the batteries in hundreds of nodes. This can significantly reduce the ongoing cost of battery replacement, not to mention, the headache of replacing power supplies in hundreds of nodes.
While power demands of consumer electronics are ever-increasing, battery capacity has not improved enough to keep pace with this demand. Currently, the SCARF module cannot autonomously power some of the higher power-demanding devices. However, they can supplement the existing power supply, greatly extending battery life. This means that users of such devices can go longer between recharging and manufacturers can keep increasing the power load without increasing battery sizes. For the consumer electronics that still have low-power requirements, such as MP3 players, SCARF Technologies' power modules can be integrated immediately eliminating the necessity of any rechargeable battery.
